This piece is hand-made old world stained furniture. It has been hand crafted by Indonesian artisans in remote villages using little more the hand tools. These pieces are mostly air dried, though the occasional kiln-dried pieces can be found, and then finished with a simple varnish or stain, no paint, no lacquer. Air drying of the wood creates a rustic appeal, allowing nature to also have an effect on the overall impression of the piece over time as the furniture settles into your environment. Individual workmanship may cause slight differences in measurements and finish. This solid wood product constantly responds to its environment, therefore, the furniture may have a subtle distressed look. Some splitting, cracking, chipping and glazing may occur. Please be aware that these blemishes and imperfections are non-structural and are to be expected. The imperfect nature of the wood and finishing methods create a unique look prominent in the character of the furniture. A stain or varnish is the final step of the process before the artisans bring their goods to market, where we carefully select only the best of what they have to offer.
